Hi LDM, hi all,
I have been meditating and questionning myself about the veil issue that women ought to have on their head.
I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings, just as I passed them on to you.
Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.
In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.
New International version
This is a matter that is acutely discussed in my church, and in my family as we do not attend the same churches. My little sister is in a church where wearing a veil is considered as legallistic and religious. My little brother's bishop (who is actually [ ???self] called a prophet...) teaches that Jesus actually wants us to be free as in the Garden of Eden where Eve did not (seem to) wear a veil, that the veil is the hair we have on our heads. Others say that the veil issue goes back to ancient times and it does not apply nowadays (a statement that is to me dangerous, otherwise we could put a lot of things in the Bible on account of old times ...)
In my church, we are tought to obey the Word of God and not to be contentious with His command for women to wear a sign of the authority He put ahead of us....
I myself completely agree with the idea of being submitted to man and to wear a veil on my head as a sign of what God ordained, as stated in the Scriptures. I want to obey the Word of God because I love Him and want to please Him. But how come this issue which seems to be clearly depicted still raises such descripancy within His church.
So what do YOU think about that ? I can accept anything as long as I am convinced that I am following my dear God. I personnally tend to be a pro-veil when i am at church and when I pray at home but a sister recently raised that we are also told to "pray continually" (1 Thessalonians 5:17), if so do I have to wear a veil continually ? because when pray while doing the dishes, I do rush to my wardrobe to get a veil though
BTW, I read (and started translating ) your post about Deborah and the role of women. But I haven't played the videos yet... I cannot wait to read the next articles about the role of men and women in God's agenda. I found it WONDERFUL, I can just thank God for you explain things I have always had in my heart, agreed to, as well you just opened my eyes to fields I had never explored so far. God bless you LDM,
Looking forward to your feedback!
