Well, I think man is a seeker of pleasure by nature. We look for things that allow us to relax and have fun. And it is not that these things are wrong, but Satan knows how to exploit and pervert. Also, if we are not properly finding our rest in Jesus, then we may seek other avenues of rest for our minds.
The world can really tax your mind. It can be exhausting just making it from day to day. Yet, we can find ways to entertain ourselves that don't necessarily involve just tuning in to something else. We listen to music, play games, etc. and my family finds this pretty relaxing when we need it.
So, I don't think entertainment itself is bad, but we just need to follow God's guidance about being careful what we see and what we hear. Because even if we tune out our conscious mind, things can still seep into the sub-conscious.
We also need to remember what happened to David on the rooftop and ensure we are not seeking entertainment when God is actually calling us to be fighting a war.
God makes us soldiers in His army, buy He also gives us rest and refreshing.
Now, if you are actually speaking of "movies, music, media" when you are talking about entertainment rather than just relaxation, then I think it just boils down to the devil having an inroads into the minds of people. As the god of this world, he always keep something going so people will be distracted away from the things of God.
No, don't study your Bible, come watch this movie. No, don't pray, go to this party. Many professing "Christians" are more glued to the world than to God. The things of the world look real flashy next to a life dedicated to the Lord, but the end result is death.
