Hmmmm...that is probably a lot deeper than what I will put here, but to just offer some initial thoughts. ;D
One must be born again by God's Spirit to be "saved." I would describe this birth as a regeneration of the spirit of man to make what was a dead soul a living soul to God.
And, while we are promised salvation through faith in Christ - and we can trust in His sacrifice as being sufficient to impart that gift to us - it is the end of the matter where this gift is actualized. For example, Jesus said those who endure to the end shall be saved.
I don't use the word "saved" too much because it has different connotations to different people. Scriptures say we are saved from sin. We are saved from our enemies. We are saved from the wrath of God. etc.
