Hi Guys! I was having a conversation on yesterday about how when people pray they often begin binding spirits and loosing other things and rebuking the devil and serving him notice and what not.
I responded that when I pray I direct those prayers to God. I very seldom feel led to speak to the devil and rebuke him or whatever. I hold to what James teaches us "resist the devil and he will flee." For me the best way to resist the devil is by drawing closer to God. Even if I feel there is a rebuke in order or spirits to be bound (not the casting out of demons) I just cry out to God to handle what I know he handles best. I would never say Satan I rebuke you but feel more confident when I can say that the Lord rebukes you....The battle is the Lord's after all, isn't it? I'd also mentioned that I do not recall anywho is Scripture ever directly speaking to the devil but God (book of Job, temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4) or binding spirits other than to cast them out of a demon possessed individual.
Anywho, this conversation made me think of a couple of Scriptures that I have read that go like this:
Jude 1:8-9
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
2 Peter 2:10-11
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
I used to be the spirit binding, devil rebuking kind of girl because that is what is taught but after reading these Scriptures some time ago I felt that it probably was not the best thing to be doing.
I just want to be clear on what the Scriptures are saying. Any insight?
