The music form is the medium that Satan chose to use indoctrinating the youth of the early 90's and late 80's, especially when it came to violence and demeaning women (young girls). Because it appeals to the male ego in it's secular form, encouraging competition, braggadocio, and a sense of manhood (false). When the generation prior bashed the music it encouraged the youth to all the more want to listen, as sin is rebellion. What the generation of elders failed to noticed was that the music's lyrics were taking the place of the fatherless sons and daughters because when dad left, the rapper was speaking and teaching the son.
People should also realize that these rappers were just teens themselves. They are speaking from the immaturity of a teenager, not a mature adult who has seen life outside of their hood. The Pastor's didn't step up and encourage men to help the widow or the fatherless, they only chimed in criticizing the music instead of using wisdom and exposing the lies and presenting the truth.
Today I believe Christian rappers (some) put far too much emphasis on rapping and less on presenting the Gospel. When the focus is on talent, you are making a crucial mistake. The Gospel is the power to save not talent. I'm reminded of a certain scripture that spoke of some of the disciples,
Acts 4:13 (KJV) 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Sometimes we put too much emphasis on knowledge, skill and talent which is our strength and not on the Power of God which is the gospel.

Good points ShekinahBreeze. The image of a father is critical to the proper development of children and even the proper running of a household because the identity of the family comes from the father. That is why the wife and children bear the father's name.
When the father is not there, or even if he is there in body but absent in mind and spirit, this leaves a gaping whole in the souls of the wife and the children. They are incomplete. The wife and children will then begin to seek fulfillment and identity elsewhere because it is not coming from the father. This opens a doorway for satan to step in and give them an identity.
Derek Prince once said he was asked to give his opinion about a man he had met. His response was, "I don't know yet because I haven't met his wife."
When the family structure of the African-American community was destroyed during slavery, it truly crippled the culture as a whole. Now of course, that curse has spread to be well beyond racial boundaries.
The call of the church is to reach the fatherless and the widows because in Jesus, we are restored to the Father and become the Bride of Christ. He is the only one who can make us whole, but the image and character of a father in a home is a key element to teaching us about the love and authority of God.
