Hi Newstart! How are things and how is that baby boy? I used to follow Arnold Murray when I first got saved. I liked the way he seemed to teach straight from the Bible without a lot of fancy trappings and words. Just real simple. However, I stopped watching him primarily for three reasons: - He doesn't believe that speaking in tongues is a gift for today and he also denies that there is such a thing as an "unknown tongue" saying that all tongues are known languages. This is false. (An article on tongues is here: thelatterdays.blogspot.com/2009/12/speaking-in-tongues-language-of-hell.html)
- He was rather rude, dismissive, and condescending to those who disagree with him. He would often read letters sent to him at the end of his teaching. Yet, when people asked him questions he didn't like, he could never answer like I Peter 3:15-16. He would be visibly bothered and make comments to present the person as silly rather than addressing the meat of the comment. It seemed he didn't like to be questioned.
- Also, he taught that the original sin in the Garden of Eden included a sex act between the serpent and Eve resulting in Cain being a literal child of Eve and the serpent. Now he is not the only one who teaches this, but I feel that ministers have an obligation to distinguish between what may be extra-biblical/theory and what is provable by the Scriptures. Yet there is no room for disagreement with him, even on things not spelled out in Scripture. You have to believe as he teaches or else be in error.
I am sure there are many more things one might be able to say about Murray, but these were just my initial feelings on the matter when I followed him years ago. I probably listened to him and received his newsletter for a year. I focused primarily on Murray also because he was the face of Shepherd's Chapel at that time. I don't know much about the church itself apart from him, but as the pastor, I would think his character speaks highly of what the church must be like. Here is a link to a site which seems to go more into his teachings: www.equip.org/articles/arnold-murray-and-the-shepherd-s-chapel

Baby is doing well! Already 9 pounds!
I too like the teaching style that Murray uses. But I wasn't sure about some of the things that he teaches so I stopped listening to him some time ago. I figured it was better to be safe and not listen.
I'll check out that link.
