Many people like to quote Romans 3:10 which tells states "There are none righteous, no not one."
Many people like to say that this verse applies to all people---Christians and non-Christians alike---and that all are unrighteous. But the people who say this are under strong delusion, greatly deceived, and leading many astray with this false teaching.
I. First let's seek the Bible which tells us that many ARE righteous:
A. Actual people who were righteous:
1. Noah (Genesis 6:9)
2. Joseph (Matt. 1:19)
3. Abel (Matt.23:35)
4. Simeon (Luke 2:25)
5. Lot (2 Peter 2:7-8)
6. Abraham (James 2:21)
B. The unnamed righteous:
There are literally scores of other scripture that refer to the righteous. This is only a sampling of those verses, so please look them up.
1. Matthew- 5:45, 9:13, 10:41, 13:17, 13:43, 13:49, 25:37, 25:46
2. Mark- 2:17
3. Luke- 1:17, 5:32, 14:14, 15:7
4. Acts- 24:15
5. Romans- 1:17, 2:13, 3:20, 5:7, 5:19

II. To say that there are none righteous is the same as saying that all are unrighteous.
If that was true, then every person without exception will not inherit the kingdom of God. It even states in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God:
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

III. The true meaning of Romans 3:10
The true meaning of Romans 3:10 is that all people without salvation are unrighteous....that is, not even one of them is righteous. This pertains to Jew and Gentile alike as Paul emphasizes in this chapter. The people in Romans chapter 3 verses 9-18 are also described as having some of these characteristics:
- they have together become worthless
- none of them do good
- they have no fear of God etc.
Paul was referring to Psalm 14:1-3, and Psalm 36:1-3 when he gave us Romans 3:10 and its surrounding context of Romans 3:9-18. These verses in Psalms refers to the unrighteous also in terms of without worth, none of them doing good, and having no fear of God etc.
In other words, Paul was not referring to follower of Christ as being unrighteous, but to wicked people as being unrighteous, Jew and Gentile alike.

IV. The Bible teaches that if one is not righteous he will not inherit eternal life:
If one is not righteous, then there is only one other group...."the unrighteous", which is also referred to in the Bible by various other names such as the ungodly, wicked, unholy, sinners, evil, unsaved etc. In other words, if one is not righteous, he is not on the road to heaven and is in desperate need to repent for we must never forget that as Matt. 25:46 tells us- that only the righteous go to eternal life.

V. We can become righteous!
The Bible teaches that one must repent (turn from sin and turn to God), or he will perish. The faith needed to be considered righteous is not a dead faith, but is a trusting and submitting faith--- one that obeys God.
In addition, it is of equal importance to endure to the end in following Christ in order to inherit eternal life. (Matt. 10:22, Heb. 3:14, Rev. 2:10-11 etc.) for sin can change our righteous standing and bring spiritual death. (James 1:13-15, Ezek. 3:20-21, Ezek 18:24-26, Ezek. 33:13-18 etc.)
Endure in righteousness by following Christ to the end for true security! To God be the glory.
