I don't know if any of you watched a recent show called the "The Real Face of Jesus" (www.history.com/shows/the-real-face-of-jesus). I did not, however, I am familiar with the Shroud of Turin, which is the subject of the show.
An overview of the show says:
"What did Jesus look like? Artists, scholars and millions of Christians around the world have been pondering the question for centuries. And on Tuesday, March 30, at 9/8c, HISTORY viewers may get closer to an answer than ever before, thanks to a special two-hour event.
The Real Face of Jesus? follows a team of graphic experts as they use cutting-edge 3D software to bring a holy relic known as the Shroud of Turin to life. Many believe Jesus Christ was buried in this ancient linen cloth, which bears traces of blood and the faint, ghostly image of a man. With the help of modern technology, can HISTORY finally unlock the secrets of one of the world’s most scrutinized and controversial artifacts?"
The Shroud of Turin is:
A 14-foot cloth in which many believe Jesus Christ was buried, may be the most studied artifact in history—and the most controversial. For centuries, scientists and historians have pored over this bloodstained piece of linen that bears the faint outline of a crucified man, hoping to uncover what the image represents and how it was created.
Using 3-D technology, this show claims to reveal the "real" face of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Scott Johnson just sent out an email that I think is pretty good in examining how these claims about the Shroud of Turin line up with Scripture, so I thought I would share.
I could not find a page on Dr. Johnson's site with this info, so I am simply pasting the text of the email below.

The Shroud of Turin" - Proven a Fake Abomination
***As you read this please remember the Shroud of Turin is one piece of rectangular cloth. (see below)

The Bible confirms the well-known history of the era when Christ Jesus lived to demonstrate that the Shroud of Turin is a fake, a fraud and an imposter.
II Timothy 2:15: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
The King James Bible (KJV) states quite clearly that after the crucifixion the body of the Lord Jesus Christ was wrapped with strips of linen cloth that were coated with a mixture of myrrh and aloes (as that was the Jewish burial custom). See: John 19:39-40:
"And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury."
Biblical Usages/Context: "The linen clothes" is translated form the word othonion (Strong's G3608) which means:
1) a piece of linen, small linen cloth, or 2) strips of linen cloth for swathing the dead
Luke 24:12: "Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
John 19:40: "Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
John 20:5: "And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in."
John 20:6: "Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie..."
Now all these verses are in reference to the Lord Jesus Christ and they all translate the term "the linen clothes" the same way for the word: othonion (Strong's G3608) which means:
1) a piece of linen, small linen cloth, or 2) strips of linen cloth for swathing the dead
And, that His head was separately covered with what the KJV terms as a napkin. In reference to Jesus Christ see--
John 20:7: "And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself."
"Napkin" is translated from the word soudarion (Strong's G4676) which means: 1) a handkerchief, or 2) a cloth for wiping perspiration from the face and for cleaning the nose and also used in swathing the head of a corpse.
John 11:44: "And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
This burial preparation method was, at the time of Christ Jesus, was "the manner of the Jews" mentioned in the Bible verses above. This Hebrew burial-preparation method has no similarity with the Shroud of Turin at all.
The two burial preparation methods are so very different as to be worlds apart, easily proving the Shroud of Turin a fake!
Within 3 days, the mixture of myrrh and aloes dries rock-hard, like shellac, producing an exceedingly stiff and solid cocoon.
All this was the burial "custom of the Jews" in the time of Christ Jesus.
There is no way a purported burial covering like the Shroud of Turin could qualify as Christ Jesus’ actual burial clothing.
The Shroud of Turin is more like a curtain or a double-length bed sheet, which seems to have covered a body front and rear, from head to toes, all in one piece without bindings, wrapping or winding.
And, the Shroud of Turin was never saturated with a mixture of myrrh and aloes. For had it been, it would today be as stiff, brittle and inflexible as a piece of wall paneling.
Instead, today’s Shroud of Turin is as soft and flexible as any cloth should be, and today the shroud is able to be folded and unfolded without breaking into pieces like a crisp Saltine cracker.
When presented as the actual burial cloth of Christ Jesus, the "Shroud of Turin" is easily revealed as a fake and a fraud.
One other point: Ask yourself does the image (visage) in the picture above (Shroud of Turin) look more marred than any man. Jesus Christ had been brutally beaten to the point of being unrecognizable but the person pictured in the "Shroud of Turin" above is perfectly recognizable and does not look as if he had endured any beatings.
Isa 52:14: "As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man,"
See below for confirmation:
Isaiah 50:6: "I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting."
Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
Matthew 26:67: "Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote [him] with the palms of their hands,"
Matthew 27:29: "And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!"
Mat 27:30 "And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head."
Luke 22:64: "And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?"
