Hi...I was wondering if any of you in your studies you have run across anything that says something to the effect of "it is not to him who understands but to him that believes."
I have done a run through the concordance a few times but was not able to find anything of the sort. I don't think I have ever recalled reading it in the past.
Just wondering....Your assistance is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Tika,
I can only think of the following, but not sure either is a good fit.
And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Luke 18:10
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Romans 9:16
Now, the general context of your search I am not sure I agree with. Understanding can be a very important part of belief.
"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints" Ephesians 1:17-18
So...if you are looking for the most unhelpful answer, this is probably it. :-)

The reason I was asking because I have been hearing this quoted as Scripture quite a bit. Off top, I was like hmmmm never heard or read that one before. I thought it was kind of strange because we are told through Scriputre that we need to have an understanding. Even when it comes to receving the Gospel message there must be an understanding to come to the knowledge of Christ to believe. We are constantly admonished to seek after wisdom and to get an understanding. So I went to my concordance and did a search. That was a while ago...then I heard it again during the message this Sunday. So of course I am like if its in there I'm going to find it. I even had Rashid looking for it. Lo and behold, I couldn't find it nor could I find any Scripture that conveyed the idea. This was used in the context of accepting and receiving supernatural manifestations and miracles from the Lord.
Your answer has been most helpful...thank you.

Oh! Well, no. Then I would say that such a position is definitely unScriptural. Here is an article that goes into this a little: thelatterdays.blogspot.com/2010/01/fellowship-vs-followship-part-3.htmlBut the bottom line is that if there are lying signs and wonders and powers of darkness, how are we protected from deception if we just believe they are from God because we want them to be? Hope you and Rashid are doing well!
