"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:12-13
When Jesus drove these men out of the temple, people probably thought He had lost His mind. Imagine the reaction of these people as Jesus came at them with the whip; probably anger, indignation, rage, hatred. Who was this person to criticize them? What authority did this man have to run them out of the temple? How dare He say that what they were doing was not acceptable to God?
The recording of this event in the Books of Mark and Luke also state that after Jesus admonished them, the scribes and priests sought how they might destroy Him (Mark 11:18 and Luke 19:47). These men were not just there taking the temple hostage. They were there with the approval of the scribes and the priests! See, these "thieves" were given place in the temple by the religious leadership because they were bringing in the money. Therefore, they were not ambivalent about Jesus' actions. They were outraged! They didn't just want to shut His mouth...they wanted to destroy Him.
The people's hearts had wandered so far from God that they were oblivious to the fact that the nature of their very fellowships together had become defiled in His eyes. They had changed the house of prayer into a den of thieves. In fact, so taken were they with their idolatrous ways, that they were willing to fight against the Living God in order to maintain them.
This is what we have currently in the churchworld.
Ministers are preaching and singing messages based on false gospels which are getting the people drunk. Confront these people about these errors, and the response you get is the same Jesus got in His day: anger, indignation, rage, hatred.
Be prepared. As God makes the distinction very clear this year between the clean and unclean, will you be the chased or will you be the chaser? Don't be swept away by every wind of doctrine, but humble yourselves, study, fast, and pray so that God may give you wisdom and spiritual discernment for the days are evil and full of deception. As He calls His Body together to stand against these perversions, ensure that you are grounded in Him so that you will not be moved.
"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" I Peter 4:17
Anybody have a whip?
