I am sure that most of us here know better but I wrote a littel ditty (not review) but a ditty on The Book of Eli. If you have not seen the movie and plan on seeing it, you may want to read this AFTER you have seen the movie because it will probably spoil a lot of it for you and you will also get a better sense as to what I am saying. Check it out if you would like and leave your comments. Beware for several typos and grammatical errors. I have not had the chance to edit as I wrote it at work. I wll do so once I get home and have the time to read back through it. I haven't figured out how to hyperlink web addresses in my blog just yet so you will have to go with the good old fashioned copy and past to view and websites that I reference...sorry. I'll figure it out though. But here goes...I would love to hear any thoughts: tikastar.blogspot.com/2010/01/book-of-eli.html

Hi Tika,
I did read your article long ago, but just haven't had the chance to respond.
What troubles me most about this movie and other things like it is that many who claim to be the church have a strong inordinate desire (even hidden) to be accepted by the world.
They want to fit in to the world. Want the approval of the world. Don't want to be different than the world or stand out as peculiar. Want the world to be their friend.
But God says we are a peculiar treasure. We are supposed to stand out. We will be different. People need to settle this in their hearts.
Folks embrace movies like the Book of Eli because if DENZEL says the Bible is right, then the Bible is right. If it is cool for Denzel to support God's word, then we can support God's word. Even though the movie itself has nothing to do with God and Denzel is an admitted channeler of spirits.
People still love the world and they still esteem the things of the world. This is why so many are claiming this is a Christian film. Man, they said the same thing about Twilight.
As long as people still are afraid to stand for Christ, they will always seek some crutch or support from the world. They cannot stand for Christ by themselves because they are cripples. They have not been made whole in Christ.
As Christians one of the first things we need to settle in our hearts is that as Jesus was, so will we be. If the world rejected Him, then it will reject us. We must understand that standing for Christ makes the world our enemy...and then be prepared to face the reactions of the world in doing so.
God has really been putting this issue on my heart lately. I pray that people will wake-up and leave the things of the world behind for it is all a snare.
Satan is using many ways to get people to join in the world. May God give us discernment and wisdom.

Just to follow up and agree with what LDB has said here, first a warning: I have been in Christ for long decades, but I STILL DIDN'T OVERCOME IN HIM, not with all the prayers and pleading with Him, until I cleaned my life out of all worldly trash that was cluttered there. Here's the truth: until you put down the things like the world's music (which includes some Gospel music, unfortunately, like Mary Mary and Kirk Franklin), all these things that excuse/tolerate sin, you will never experience the true freedom of Christ, that sets you free indeed. I testify of what I know.
