ONLY by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. Proverbs 13:10
Always gotta have the last word? Take disagreement as a personal offense? Find yourself responding in the flesh? Contention ONLY comes by pride.
Don't let the light of your Godly zeal be extinguished by efforts to exalt "self". Seek God's ways AHEAD of your own so that you may FIND and BRING peace in any situation.
The source of ALL contention is Pride. How many times could we have ended strife by simply shutting out mouths? Taking the wrong? Agreeing with our adversary while we are in the way?
God taught me a long time ago that there is no reason for a Christian to be personally offended. If something is said that is untrue, then dismiss it. If it is true, then acknowledge it, repent, and move on.
We would truly be able to walk in victory if we would simply stop championing our own causes and instead champion the cause of Christ. And Lord help us from getting the two mixed up.
"But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee." Psalm 5:11
When we are doing His work, our God is our defense. Remember that the next time you are tempted to jump to your own defense. Such an inclination could very well be the sign that we are off doing our own thing instead of following God's lead.
