I like this article. I was just reading some of those very same scriptures myself yesterday.
Thinking about Paul's situation is very sobering yet inspiring. In a day and age when we have Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen and preachers are living it up like celebrities it's hard to think that a person who is saved can have such hardships as Paul and the other early members of the church.
But reading Paul's words helps remind me that a great testimony is how God sees a person through a difficult spot while they are doing his will. He reminds me (as many other scriptures in the Bible do) that the ability to endure is what is important.
One can be rich and lost and miserable OR one can be poor and safe and content and full of hope and joy.
The world will never teach us to accept the latter.
